"Project Runway" Fashion Class- Season 1
This is a great class for those interested in Fashion Design or fans of the show Project Runway! The instructor is a real project runway contestant, who will give you your weekly fashion challenge. Learn the basic techniques of how to DESIGN, SKETCH, DRAFT, DRAPE and SEW various SKIRTS. You'll complete the course on week 5 with a project runway style challenge before it has to be presented to the “judges”!...will you be in or out?
INSTRUCTOR BIO: Fashion designer and Project Runway Season 10 contestant, Buffi Jashanmal, has been designing and teaching for over 10 years. Between New York, Dubai and London, and most recently, she has made her mark as a fun, out-going designer. Both a Parsons and London College of Fashion alumni, Buffi set up her fashion line, Quiet Riot Dubai, in Dubai 4 years ago. Nominated by Time Out as one of the top designers in the UAE and one of the leading designers shaping the Middle East, she returned to New York two years and is now based here. The designer has a dress-making book coming out at the end of next year, which is a combination of pattern-making, sewing and some fun easy ways to customize dresses. The book is for all levels, beginners to advance and is a fun approach to dress making!
PROJECT (Season 1): Various SKIRT styles
SKILLS & TECHNIQUES:
Learn sewing machine skills, seams and seam finishes
Learn how designers come up with design ideas
Learn fashion illustration techniques
Introduction to draping and how fabric works on the dressform
Learn to drape various skirt styles and draft patterns, too
Take the Project Runway Fashion Challenge on week 5: Sketch, drape, cut and sew an original garment!
Cost: $295 + tax
Fabric and Supplies:
Students should bring 10-15yds Muslin fabric, 2 yds fusible interfacing fabric scissors, paper cutting Scissors, thread, #24 dressmaker pins, a seam ripper, hand needles, Dot pattern paper, #5 & #7 mechanical pencils, 2" clear grid ruler, french curve ruler, hip curve ruler, magic tape, tailors chalk, hand needles, safety pins
Course duration: 3 hour classes/5 week course
Runs: Wed. 6:00pm - 9:00pm (Jan 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th, Feb 6th)
Prerequisite: Basic sewing experience and understanding of a sewing machine.
